Scanning: how easy is it to guide the pen, how quickly does it recognize text, and how consistent is recognition?
OCR: how well does it recognize different fonts, sizes, and layouts?
Reading: how natural is the text-to-speech experience, and how useful are pronunciation and playback controls?
Translation: how easy is it to translate, what language coverage is available, and what requires an internet connection?
Hardware: ergonomics, screen, buttons, battery, portability, and durability.
Software: apps, desktop software, browser tools, export, connectivity, and editing.
Usability: setup, learning curve, and everyday workflow — a feature is only useful if people can actually use it.
Value: capabilities compared against total cost.
Our editorial policy
We never invent testing results, ratings, specifications, testimonials, or performance data. Manufacturer specifications are identified as manufacturer-provided information. Independent testing is identified as independent testing. If we cannot verify something, we say so.
